Middle Leadership- Personal Development
Miss Loveridge and Mrs Hadley are Laurel Lane's Middle Leadership and they support the personal development of the school. Each half term, they will provide an update on all of their hard work.
Spring 1 Term 2025
Once again, Spring 1 has been a very busy half term at Laurel Lane. The Year 6 children had the opportunity to put themselves forward to become prefects and sit through an interview process. They all did extremely well and we elected 8 new prefects. They are going to be helping around the school and representing the school at future events. Congratulations to them all.
It was a busy week when we celebrated Children’s Mental Health week and NSPCC Number Day. For CMHW, we hosted emotions dress-up day which was a big hit, and all the children loved talking about why they had chosen a certain colour for each emotion. We then surprised the children with a teacher swap, which was a great success and the children shared they would like this to happen again.... watch this space! During the teacher swap, the children had to design a mental health mascot for the school. After careful deliberation (as there were some amazing entries) the winner was Hassan in year 2 with his amazing mascot called Sam (see below for picture of his mascot). Finally to finish off CMHW, the children all came together to sing parts of a song called “It’s okay to not be okay”.
NSPCC Number Day was a great success with all the children coming together to be mathematicians for the day. The older children spent the morning designing maths games to share with the younger children. They were considerate to making sure these were accessible for all children, which made the whole event a great success. The younger children spent the morning showing off their maths skills in a carousel of maths games. Overall, there are some budding mathematicians amongst us!
Finally, we thank all the parents who were able to attend our first ‘Come Read with Me’ session and Book Look. We hope you found these sessions purposeful and fun! We will be sending a survey about these events and your feedback is appreciated. We want to ensure that these sessions are accessible to as many parents as we can, so please complete the survey.
Coming up in Spring 2, there are plenty of new events to celebrate, including World Book Day, Big Walk and Wheel (a focus on how children get to school in ways that protect the environment), Red Nose Day, Easter competitions and another ‘Come Read with Me’ and Book Look event. It’s another busy one, so please check the newsletter for dates and times.
