At Laurel Lane Primary School, we believe that every day counts. Regular attendance is essential for children’s learning, wellbeing and long-term success. We want every child to have the best possible start in life and to make the most of every opportunity available to them at school.

Every day in school matters. Regular attendance gives children consistency, routine and access to all the learning and opportunities that take place each day.

Belong Here
Being in school helps children build strong relationships with their friends and adults, feel part of their class and develop a strong sense of belonging to the Laurel Lane community.

Thrive Here
When children attend regularly, they are better placed to make progress, grow in confidence, develop independence and make the most of everything Laurel Lane has to offer.

We do all that we can to support children to attend school every day, including:

• Clear processes and procedures for reporting absence.
• Timely and regular contact with parents and carers when children are absent from school.
• Providing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that encourages children to enjoy coming to school and learning.
• Home visits where children are absent without notification, and where children have been absent for more than one week without appropriate medical evidence being provided.
• Meetings with families when term-time leave is requested.
• Recognising and celebrating good attendance through appropriate rewards and incentives.
• Working closely with families where attendance is a concern to understand any barriers and put appropriate support in place.

We recognise that there can sometimes be genuine reasons why attending school regularly may be difficult. Our aim is to work in partnership with parents and carers to understand what is getting in the way and how we can help.
